APPLICATION INFORMATION

Bear Application/License Rules

Michigan bear permit applications require a few choices that we strongly urge you to contact us and discuss before making.

There are three hunting seasons offered to bear hunters in Michigan. You will also need to choose a bear managment unit,or area, in which you will be hunting. Talking with us about these choices is a good idea because there are variables that could effect your chances at successfully drawing a kill tag.

Michigan works on a "lottery" type draw for kill permits as well as a preference point system. If you apply for a kill-tag and are unsuccessful you will obtain one preference point for the next years drawing. Typically, a person applying for the Sept. 15th-October 26th hunt period may need up to 2 preference points before being guaranteed kill tag success. However, later hunt periods sometimes offer you good success rates for drawing tags and harvesting bears.

Bear permits are to be applied for between may 1st and May 30th
